Guest Blogger: Christos Poetry Project

In class during the past week, we were working on a Poetry Project.
It's where you write a bunch of different kinds of poems like Acrostic, Alliteration, Cinquain, Concrete, Haiku, Creature Alliteration, Five Senses, Who-What-Where-Why, Limericks, and free writing poems. Then you type all the poems you wrote on the computer, and see how many points you get. The minimum of points you can get is 50. But why not try for more? You can really have alot of fun writing poems, because it gives you something worth doing.

Love Poetry!

Guest Blogger: Sohail Discovery World

Last Tuesday we went to Discovery World. It was so much fun. We got to pet sharks and look at jellyfish. We ate lunch and then went exploring. We got to learn about how long trash takes to break down. When we were done with that, we went downstairs to the aquarium to pet the sharks. I got very wet so did everyone else. Then we left to the technology room. I went on the bed of nails once and I did the hamster wheel. And then after we left on the bus at 1:30.

Spring Music and Me Stars

Guest Blogger: Mark Social Studies Quiz

Two Fridays ago, we had a Social Studies quiz. The quiz was about the thirteen British colonies. We had to name in what section were each of the colonies. Our choices were southern, middle and New England. Then we answered three short answer questions. The first question was " Why did the colonists move from Europe to the thirteen colonies?" Next was," Do you think the colonists were better off in Europe or in N.America?" The last question was, "Why were there no plantations in Georgia before 1750? Why did that change after 1750?" So that raps up our Social Studies quiz.

Guest Blogger:Emma Our Creatures and More

In art, we are making clay creatures! Right now we are glazing them. What we did is combine animal parts to make our own creations. You had to use two or more animals to make your creature. After we're done with glazing, we're doing collages with fabric. We already started that though. I wonder whats next in line for art after collages? Stay tuned to find out...

Guest Blogger: Philip Four Score And Seven Years Ago

Today (3-8-10), the whole 5th grade went to go see "Four Score And Seven Years Ago" as a play. We were told to behave like a good school because we're representing Swanson. We saw what sort of happened in the Civil War. The Civil War was about the North Fighting for freedom of slaves and to stay united. The South wanted to keep slavery or else they wouldn't succeed as farmers. In the play, Jacob "not a real character" is part of the South. Leroy, an African-American, escapes slavery and works for Mrs. Mikelheny. Jacob and Leroy are sort of friends. Jacob is the nephew of Mrs. M. Bad things happen in the play. I really like the play. It has lots of action and war dudes. It is historical fiction.

PE: Archery Unit

We have recently been working on an archery unit in PE. Mr. Dave has been very impressed with our classes ability and responsibility with this unit. He brought in his own hunting bow to demonstrate the principals of draw length and draw weight for the class. Even Mrs. Stemper took a few shots. We had a great time!

With our new SMART response, we don't have to even raise our hands! With the press of a button, you can answer any question you need to. Each student has a SMART response controler, which is like a t.v. remote. With these we can answer any question on the SMART board. I'm excited. Now, scool is exciting, educational, and technical. Not like my old school. Swanson is more exciting. The rest of this school year is going to be awesome!
