More News...
Dear Parents:
Your child need to wear a white t-shirt to school on Monday. The class photo is being taken at noon on that day, and the kids are going to slip on their recognition t-shirts on over their white t-shirts. The recognition t-shirts will be re-collected after the photo and be given again in time for the recognition ceremony on June 6th.
On Wednesday, we have our field trip to Wisconsin Hills Middle School. Your child needs to bring $1.00 to school to purchase a snack to eat while cafeteria procedures are explained. Please have your child wear his/her WHMS t-shirt, if they purchased one through the fundraiser. It is a fun and informative trip!
Today your child will be bringing home costume ideas for your child’s scene in the musical. Please talk with your child about what character (s)he is portraying. We don’t want you to spend a lot of money on a costume. Most kids simply need a white shirt and dark pants. Goodwill and Salvation Army are great resources for costumes! We need to have your child’s costume complete and brought to school by May 14th. This is picture day for the play. Also, if you have any of the props listed, please consider letting us borrow them for the play. Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns.
Today we were visited by a group of district-level administrators and support groups from Elmbrook to see us utilizing technology. The kids were very well-spoken about the role of technology in our learning experience. They will be featured in an article in Brookfield Now. I’ll keep you posted when I find out more.
Lastly, in addition to the free apps this week from Everyday Math, your child has been set up in a class account for Sumdog. This is a great website for kids to practice math skills. If they are going to play on the computer, let’s make it worthwhile…right?!
Thanks so much!

Hi, All!
Wanted to get this news out before Thursday.
For those parents and students with access to an ipad, iTouch, or iPhone device, McGraw-Hill is making 5 of its EveryDayMath Games available for FREE download to users this week (April 25-28).
The applications include:
Addition Top-It
Monster Squeeze

This is a great opportunity for those families with access to Apple’s technology.
Also, the school nurse would like to remind all fifth grade parents that all student entering middle school must have a Tdap and 2nd Varicella vaccination before school begins. I know many of you are arranging doctor visits over the summer.
Family Fun Night will be held on June 1st. We will once again be having the Family Fun Night Basket Raffle. Our basket will be “Pets---our faithful family members”. Donations may include pet toys for cats or dogs, pet treats, money to purchase a gift card to a pet store, etc. Let’s have fun and create a GREAT basket. All items should be brought to school by Wednesday, May 22nd. Baskets will be on display in the school lobby from May 23rd through June 1st.
That’s all for now!
Have a TERRIFIC Tuesday evening!

Thursday News
Hello Fabulous Fifth Grade Parents!
Today you received a very important note about all of the events leading up to and including Fifth Grade Recognition. Thank you to ALL of you who have been a part of the team—attending fundraisers, sending in bakery, giving your students money for ice cream sales, and so much more! A special thank you to Lisa Thomsen and Michele Pavlovic our co-chairs of this event. Please keep a copy of this note in a special place as a reminder of all of the dates and deadlines.
Today in math, the kids celebrated Pi Day with some very delicious pies. Thanks to all of you who sent in a pie. We had more than enough for all the kids to sample several kinds. They then used the formulas we have learned using pi to figure out the circumference and area of the pies…and even or our planet! It was a great time for all. The celebration was well-deserved after the great scores most of the kids are bringing home today on their Chapter 10 math assessment. They really did a great job! We will be starting Chapter 11 tomorrow. It is a 3D Geometry unit. It is a short unit, so our target date for our next test is Wednesday, May 2nd.
In writing this week, we did our spring on demand writing assessment. You will see these coming home early next week. They will be accompanied by the writing collection that has been kept here at school for your child over the years. Enjoy taking a walk down memory lane and celebrating your child’s growth as a writer over time! So fun to see! We also wrapped up a short mini-unit on 6 Word Memoirs. This unique genre which was started by SMITH magazine several years ago, has grown in popularity over time. Our memoirs are posted in the hall for all to see. It was great to see students struggle with how to represent themselves.
We have formally begun play practice. We are off to a great start. You will be getting much more information home on costuming and the like soon. Meanwhile, please keep “running lines” with your child.
A reminder from the health room, please make sure that your child’s immunizations are up to date for middle school.
Thanks so much for sending the kids back from spring break refreshed and ready to finish out the year by giving their best!
Cindy
