Guest Blogger: Katie Mrs. Stemper’s 5th Grade Science

In Science , lately we have been working on Mixtures and Solutions. One of our experiments was trying to get salt to a point where no matter what we do, salt will not dissolve in the water any more. This is called a saturated solution. We also weighed how many grams of salt dissolved in the water. We did that by taking all of the salt that didn’t dissolve out with a filter then we had a scale and put the same amount of water on each side of the scale but one side had the dissolved salt and the other had gram cubes for measuring. This may seem easy but it is hard to make sure you are controlling all of the variables. It was fun but hard.

We are studying in social studies about the independence of our country. How our country became United States. We studied about some really important stuff like "The French and Indian War(1754-1763)", "The Proclamation of 1763", "The Sugar Act(1764)" and "The Stamp Act(1765)". I wonder what our classmates will bring on Friday for the poster presentation?

Pi(e) Day!

Today we had a math lesson about the ratio of diameter to circumference We found out how Pi was discovered. To celebrate our learning, we also ate pie! Special thanks to Philip, Lovre, Layne, Maria, and Danielle for supplying us with delicious pies! Pies + Math=What a yummy equation!

For those of you who don’t already know, we are raising money for our 5th grade class gift. Our class gift is a mural for the library. So far, these are our sale totals.

That gives us a total of $3,661. Our expenses are $1,150 so that gives us $2,511 for our class gift! Our original budget for class gift was $500. We have 5x that amount! Our next sales are Culvers Nights-April 27 and May 25 from 5-8pm. We are also having Ice Cream Sales on April 23, May 7, 21, and 28. We will be selling ice cream sandwiches and popsicles for $1 each during the lunch hours.
