Write a five-day diary that explores a historical event from the point of view of a real or fictional character. You may choose any time in history and any place in America. Make sure to include lots of details that really show the difference between the historical period you choose and your real life today.

Here are some things to think about:
  • How are you dressed?
  • What equipment and tools do you use?
  • What are the buildings like?
  • How do the people around you speak and behave?

How to Enter:

Each entry must include: student's name, age, and grade; teacher's name; and school name, address, and phone number.

All entries must be received by March 21, 011

Thursday Newsletter

Dear Parents of Room 210:

Happy Thursday! First off, congratulations to all of you parents of members of the band and orchestra! What a wonderful performance they all gave today. I was so proud of them. I know how much support you give to them and think you deserve a round of applause, too!

Next week we wrap up Quarter 2. It is hard for me to believe that half the year has gone by! We will be taking our unit 6 math test on Wednesday. We will also be wrapping up our study of early colonization in North America and moving into the study of the Thirteen Colonies. In reading and writing, we will continue with our new book clubs and finish off our informational essays.

As we come to the halfway point, it is time to think about middle school. Today your child will be bringing home a registration packet from WHMS with lots of information about upcoming dates and registration needs. Please be on the watch for this. Thanks!

Mrs. Kreul has asked us to share the following opportunity with you and your student. We have so many wonderful writers in our class, that we like to keep them informed of any community writing opportunities that come our way.
Barnes & Noble is launching our first ever "My Favorite Teacher Contest." This program provides students with the opportunity to tell their communities how much they appreciate their teachers. Teachers from Kindergarten through Grade 12 are eligible for nomination. Awards include cash prizes for teachers and schools, Nook eBook Readers and more. The contest will be broken down into local and regional winners, from which the Barnes & Noble Teacher of the Year will be chosen. Students can nominate their teacher by writing essays, poems or thank you letters that share how their teacher has influenced their life and why they appreciate and admire their teacher. Participating schools collect the essays and submit them to their local Barnes & Noble store for consideration. Entries will be judged on the compelling nature of the teacher's qualities, the sincerity of the student's appreciation and the quality of expression and writing. Please visit our website for more information: www.bn.com/myfavoriteteacher.

Wishing you a great Thursday and a happy weekend!
Cindy

Survive Alive Field Trip

We had a wonderful time with the Brookfield Fire Department. Special thanks to Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Hodges for chaperoning our trip. The kids were able to learn about fire safety, practice fire escape procedures, see artifacts from fires, and learn a great deal about the importance of careful planning and thinking about potentially harmful situations. Thanks to the Brookfield Firefighters for this hands-on and important experience!
